I thoroughly enjoyed the Big Fight on Saturday night, which saw David Haye take on the mammoth task of fighting Nikolai Valuev. However, a couple of things crossed my mind as I settled down to watch this David vs. Goliath battle.
Firstly, I hoped that underneath his enormous frame and general scary appearance that the big freakish Russian was actually a kind and gentle guy. Someone who loved his Mum and would be the perfect person to rescue a little Kitten from a tree, or be your Dad outside the school gates if you were a bullied ten year old! Secondly, I pondered the tactics required by Haye to tackle this giant. My own would have included a lot of running, screaming and some wild swings of a chainsaw on full power!
The fight itself was fantastic! Haye remained disciplined to his trainers tactics, skipping away from the lumbering Russian and even making him do a "silly dance" in the twelfth! Awesome stuff and a true British Champion to be proud of. Congratulations David.
My favourite part of the whole event though was Haye's entrance to the arena, accompanied by the fabulous McFadden & Whitehead 'Ain't No Stopping Us Now'! Never before has 70's funk/soul/disco sounded so magical, especially when the camera caught a group of well dressed English lads, beer in hand of course, singing along at full volume! Brilliant!
